What is the best (Eco friendly) pond liner?
I will be expanding my water-garden next season to include a waterfall and fish. My plan is to empty it completely and replace the liner while I am at it rather than try to patch, splice, or tie different liners together. I initially used PVC but understand that PVC is NOT the most environmentally friendly option. That being said, what is the best option? EPDM? Polyethylene? Something else?

EPDM is the standard now for pond liners. Its just inert synthetic rubber. As for the manufacturing process of EPDM I am not sure how eco friendly that is. If you want to be really eco friendly make sure to recycle the old liner.
