A Great Method of Growing Cucumber and Other Vegetables

Cucumbers are a favorite among many gardeners since they are easy to grow and can be highly productive. There is a method of gardening that is changing the way many people are growing plants because of the spectacular results it brings with very little work involved. This method is great for growing cucumber and many other vegetables, and it is all organic.

Planting vegetables in the ground is what comes to mind when many people think of gardening, but this can actually be the hard way to do it. It can take a lot of time and labor to keep soil in good condition and fertile. And to keep the pests away like weeds, gophers, moles, snails, slugs, and many more. Growing vegetables in the ground wastes a lot of water and fertilizer as well. Most of it ends up soaking into the ground or is lost to evaporation. The plants only use a small fraction of the water that gets dumped on the ground.

Many  people are starting to discover a much easier way to grow their vegetables. Many people expected hydroponics to be the solution to growing plants. But it just hasn’t caught on with the main stream, since it does have its problems, mainly with maintaining nutrient levels. But aquaponics seems to be picking up the slack and gaining popularity the way hydroponics never did.

Aquaponics is a way to put fish to work, growing plants for you. Fish actually make excellent gardeners, and they will work for very low wages. All they want is food and clean water and they will work for you 24/7. Fish release large amounts of waste materials into the water through their gills and excrement. These wastes are some of the best organic plant fertilizer you can find. When you circulate fish eater through a hydroponic grow bed, you can get spectacular results. And the plants clean the water so it can be reused over and over.

This method works great for growing cucumbers and many other vegetables. The great thing about growing cucumbers and other vine plants this way, is they can be planted in the grow bed and then grow off in some direction, while another vegetable can grow in the bed right next to them. With this method you can plant things very close together and grow much more in a very small space. With such a high concentration of water and nutrients, competition for water and nutrients is much less of a problem, since there is plenty for all.

One of the greatest benefits of this type of growing is it is very low maintenance. Unlike soil gardening where you have to repeat the same soil prep work every year and battle weeds over constantly. With aquaponics, you set the system up once and after that it pretty much takes care of itself year after year. You just plant the plants, feed the fish and keep an eye on the system to make sure it is running properly. Occasionally you may have to put additives in if the PH is off or if a certain nutrient is lacking. But in a well running mature system this is usually minimal.

This can actually be a more simple method than gardening in the ground. This is a system that is in your control but also works with nature instead of working against it in the ground. The cycle between the fish and plants is a very natural cycle and produces high quality organic vegetables and fish.
