Vegetables or fruits to grow in my bedroom.?
I’m unexperienced with gardening… thinking of planting some vegetables or fruits in (plant boxes?) in my bedroom. I have a large window so plenty of sunlight, water is no problem either. what to grow? im looking for dense nutrition, minimal space (i only got a square meter). And can I use gray water (shower, hand washing) to water these plants? I’m not trying to totally feed myself… Just have some food growing…
Well I’d opt for a tomato plant, make sure it is a indeterminate, although it will have to be trimmed often, but will never discontinue to grow, and the only problem is cutting the top, it will continue to bush out. Then with grey water never pour it from the top, you going to be applying sodium borate if you do, in quantities that will not be good for the plant. let the root system choose what it brings to the top. I have no idea, how the smell will be but I think topping the potting soil with ag lime, which is primarily calcium carbonate, should keep the odor down, and turn it over in the top uniformly. Never use slake lime or picking lime. I’ve used grey water and it is fine, but build ups of borax and sodium are possible when applying them from the top. Both of the last two inhibit plant growth, Health issues I don’t think so just keep the grey water from your own source. My choice of tomato plant,N# 1 Jet Star, 2nd , Big Beef.
