Vegetable Seeds In Usa

The first thing the custom officer asks is do you have any food .. can someone really define that?

We bought the following: bottles of cooking oil and sauces, glass bottles of preserved vegetables, Chinese herbs, and packaged biscuits.

What about seeds for eating that you bought from a store in Canada?

Basically if I reply yes and tell them all the food-related items that I have with me, will they confiscate my items? Will they do a thorough search of the car?

according from here http://www.consular.canada.usembassy.gov/enter_usa_from_canada.asp , food is okay as long as it’s not citrus and meat or fish and it is packaged and sold in Canada?
